Joint digital infrastructure reforms announced
The Ministry of Technology, led by Wyatt Baek, the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, led by Chelsea Chen, and the Ministry of Internal
Affairs, led by Connor Klinkosch, have jointly announced a plan to
reform the digital infrastructure for Gapla’s identification systems
throughout 2025.
Update of the eGapla SSO System: The Ministry of Technology is working
to launch an updated version of the eGapla SSO system that allows users
to securely sign in to government services with device biometrics such
as a fingerprint or facial recognition, as well as through other
alternative methods including multiple forms of two-step verification.
(Completed in February 2025)
- e-Residency Program: The Ministry of Internal Affairs is working
closely with the Ministry of Technology to launch an e-Residency
program as a replacement for Gaplan citizenship for most members of
our community, with Gaplan citizenship now reserved to those who
verify their identity and complete a more thorough application.
Current Gaplan citizens will either have their citizenship renewed,
or will be transferred to the e-Residency program. (ETA:
July–September 2025)
- NFC ID Cards: The Ministry of Technology is working to launch an
NFC-enabled national identification card that would allow Gaplan
citizens to log into government services or send money through the
Bank of Gapla by tapping a physical card onto a mobile phone. In
addition, physical national identification cards be able to be used
digitally in most mobile phones to enter government buildings, such
as offices or official residences. (ETA: October–December 2025)
- myGapla Mobile App: The Ministry of Technology is working to
launch a mobile app for Gapla called “myGapla” on the Apple App
Store and the Google Play Store. The app would allow users to access
the Secure Citizen Portal, the Government Intranet, and the Bank of
Gapla, and would be integrated with the NFC ID cards mentioned
above. (ETA: October–December 2025)
- Biometric Passports: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working
closely with the Ministry of Technology to bring a refreshed, modern
biometric passport to Gapla, featuring a beautiful polycarbonate
biopage and redesigned interior pages. (ETA: October–December 2025)
